It’s time to say Goodbye to Discord
We're moving the SQD community to telegram
TL;DR: The SQD community is moving to Telegram. In one week, the Discord server will become read-only. Join us on Telegram to chat away,
GM Data Ocean Navigators,
As you have noticed, Discord is falling out of favor with Web3 communities. Unsurprisingly, this is true for anyone who has spent a significant amount of time on the platform. Last year, NOUNS DAO quit Discord altogether, citing security concerns and the obvious cognitive dissonance between a decentralized protocol and having an entire DAO in one Discord server.
Our situation is slightly different, but the concerns are similar.
When we came out of stealth and started seeing an inflow of people interested in the thing we were building, our first instinct was to do what all the others around us did. We set up a Discord server, a Twitter (now X) account and a Telegram channel.
Leading up to our CoinList sale, activity picked up significantly, and with different language groups in Discord, we felt we could best serve all of the members.
Nevertheless, it has also led to fragmenting the crowd and a hard-to-navigate experience for anyone joining new.
Moreover, we all know that Discord isn’t the safest place to hang out in crypto. Nearly every week, we hear about another hack where a project, thanks to some Discord vulnerability, is compromised, and members fall victim to some sort of scam.
Although our admin’s security paranoia meant his system is probably so secure it’d make the KGB jealous, certain things are always out of our control - such as when Discord itself has a breach.
Time to say Goodbye to Discord.
In an ideal world, we’d have access to a fully web3-native alternative for community management. There are a handful of platforms with such claims. However, they pose higher entry barriers and still lack the level of adoption we’d like to see before going all-in on them.
In the meantime, our compromise is to go with the app that’s a must-have for everyone in crypto and is probably already installed on your phone: telegram.
To facilitate this transition, we opened up our public Telegram channel and turned it from announcements only to a group. You’ll be able to chat with other SQD community members, developers, and our team members there.

We’re looking forward to seeing you around on Telegram.
If you know of any web3 platforms we should explore, let us know!

FAQ
When is the Discord shutting down?
The Discord isn’t shutting down but will become read-only on November 18th at 11:00 UTC.
Where do I join the SQD community on telegram?
Please join with this link: https://t.me/subsquid
Why are you quitting Discord?
Because it s*cks, it’s very messy, chaotic, hard to navigate, and insecure. We believe Telegram is a much better fit for our current community.
Where can I reach the SQD team?
You can always put questions in the telegram group. Alternatively, you can reach out on X, Farcaster, or send us an email to contact@subsquid.io.
