SQD Hackathon at ETHGlobal Buenos Aires

ETHGlobal Buenos Aires was a proper “sleep? never heard of her” kind of weekend - and we loved it.

A weekend recap from ETHGlobal Buenos Aires

We came to Buenos Aires to meet builders where they build: in the arena, under time pressure, with big ideas and questionable amounts of caffeine. The challenge was simple:

Build something real using SQD Portal + the Pipes SDK.
And for docs, teams leaned on SQD Docs 2.0 (beta) while hacking.

By the end, 10 teams had wired their dapps into Portal + Pipes - spanning AI agents, data marketplaces, onchain subscriptions, cross-chain tracking, DeFi signal detection, and more.

The SQD prize tracks (and what we looked for)

We sponsored three SQD tracks at ETHGlobal Buenos Aires:

  • Best Overall Project using the Pipes SDK - $3,500
  • Most Creative / Innovative Use Case of the Pipes SDK - $1,000
  • Most Degen Use Case of the Pipes SDK - $500

The judging lens was consistent: did you use Pipes in a meaningful way, does it work, and is it demo-ready?

Winners

1) Best Overall - Data Context Market (DCM) ($3,500)

Data Context Market is a decentralized marketplace where creators can store and monetize datasets, while AI agents can automatically discover and purchase them using x402 micropayments.

What stood out: DCM didn’t just “index stuff” - it shipped a whole ecosystem:

  • An MCP server for natural-language blockchain dataset generation via SQD Pipes
  • A marketplace flow for storage + discovery (Filecoin + onchain registry)
  • A clean web dashboard for humans
  • Indexing into ClickHouse for analytics

2) Most Creative / Innovative - TIMBA LLM Eval ($1,000)

TIMBA LLM EVAL turned Polymarket into a proving ground for agents.

The team built a tool to backtest prompts against historical Polymarket data, then pushed it further: agents compete, read each other’s stats, and refine predictions in a market-style arena - with x402 in the mix for agent-to-agent requests.

3) Most Degen - Galactic Alpha ($500)

Galactic Alpha asked the question nobody asked - and therefore it had to be built:

“What if the stars actually did guide our trades?”

It’s a playful DeFi portal combining onchain Uniswap V2 metrics (streamed via Pipes SDK) with real-time astro signals. Vaults open on celestial conditions. ENS subnames get… cosmic. It’s fun, it’s wired, it might moon, it might break.

The full roster (10 projects)

Below are all of the SQD-linked hackathon submissions from the weekend - different flavors, same energy: ship fast, wire data properly, make it demoable.

What we learned (aka: what builders actually want)

Even across wildly different apps, the pattern was loud:

  • Teams want fast, reliable access to both historical and real-time onchain data (without babysitting infra).
  • Agents are becoming first-class users - and that forces better primitives for discovery, payments, reputation, and monitoring.
  • “Data products” are evolving: not just dashboards - but datasets, signals, automations, and marketplaces.

Portal + Pipes SDK are built for exactly this: getting onchain data into your app fast, clean, and at scale.

Build with Portal + Pipes

If you want to build on the same stack used at ETHGlobal Buenos Aires:

And if you shipped something cool with Pipes - we want to see it.
