Monthly Recap: July

While your average European co-worker is putting in their OOO notifications, the SQD team was busy working on the tech and spreading the word on building the future of onchain data access.
If you were offline this month for a well-earned vacation, or just want an overview of what we got up to, read on.
New Listings & Opportunities
The SQD token is the oil that keeps the machinery running, and the more easily it’s made available, the better for our reach. Much to the excitement of our Co-Founder, Marcel Fohrmann, the SQD token has made it to Bitpanda, the largest exchange in the DACH region and sponsor of his favorite football club, FC Bayern Munich.
On top of that, SQD was listed by Bitvavo, and we got a shoutout for the SQD pool on Aerodrome.

New integrations
One of SQD’s strengths is our infrastructure’s ability to make vast amounts of data available. In part, the more chains are integrated, the better for builders going multichain. In July, we added two more chains’ data to our data lake:
- Irys: a high-performance data chain enabling an ecosystem where data can be financialized, monetized, discovered, and shared.
- Hemi: the programmable Bitcoin chain, scaling Bitcoin beyond the money use case.
Engineers working hard
Currently, the SQD engineering teams’ focus is on Hot Blocks, our real-time data streaming service, and on shipping SDK 2.0, which will mean a leap forward in ease of use for retrieving and handling data from SQD.
We’ve also successfully mitigated a rogue actor’s DDOS attack, which shortly took down our network dashboard. Note that, while they managed to attach the centralized frontends, the network beneath continued to work as usual, and funds were at no time at risk.
Huge shoutout to the devs for handling the DDoS attack!

The network app and the squids should now be serving requests as expected. https://t.co/L55g4cv4f2
Within a few hours, operations were restored to normal.
Data Talk ft. SEDA Protocol
For our second recording of the Data Talks, we went live with Jasper, the CTO of SEDA Protocol; a protocol making web2 and other off-chain data available onchain. We discussed what the difficulties were in connecting the world offline with crypto, and common misconceptions about any data chain.
You can watch the recording here.
Community happenings
As part of our drive to share more peaks behind the curtains and provide a view into the team working at SQD, we kicked off “SQD Lunch Break”. It’s a group call on Telegram, led by our Marketing/Comms team, and just a casual place to chat among like-minded.
It’s happening on Fridays during lunchtime CET time. Keep your eyes on the X timeline or the Telegram to never miss it.
Node Operator Spotlight

One group of network participants that often flies under the radar are node operators. They are the individuals responsible for making the decentralized data lake possible by running worker nodes. They deserve some love, too, so starting with Erick from Nodies, we’ll occasionally be sharing spotlights on our amazing node operators.
“We have a history of supporting RPC and indexers in the past. Nothing came close to SQD when we conducted our study, and that led to our deep research blog post on SQD.”
Erick on why they run nodes on SQD.
